It is so hard to find out what defines any community before moving there. Of course there will usually be Google searches and the official city website to brows through, but sometimes those sites miss out on the important things like what makes that community different – its personality?
What Defines the Co-ops in Greenbelt?
Cooperative; co op er a tive (noun): a jointly owned enterprise, operated by its members for their mutual benefit: Greenbelt Homes, Inc works as a democracy meaning that the members of the community have complete control over the buildings in which they live.
Community; com mu ni ty (noun): a social group of any size whose members reside in a specific locality, share government, and often have a common cultural and historical heritage; In Greenbelt, community involvement is encouraged more than ever.
Pedestrian; pe des tri an (adjective): of, relating to, or made for pedestrians: Greenbelt’s use of inner-walkways and underpasses minimizes pedestrians having to cross streets. It is possible to go almost anywhere on foot in Old Greenbelt.
Innovative; in no va tive (adjective): to introduce something new; make changes in anything established: Greenbelt is a town built completely from scratch with a plan to improve the economy and community as part of Franklin D. Roosevelt’s New Deal. Today it allows residents to have benefits of both a homeowner, acquiring equity in their property, and a renter, offeri ng services such as maintenance and utilities.
Ideal; i de al (adjective): regarded as perfect of its kind: Greenbelt, at the intersecting point of four major highways, is an ideal location for commuters or city dwellers who work in the District of Columbia, Baltimore, MD or other locations in the metropolitan Washington area. In addition, major employment centers, including the Goddard Space Center of NASA, the Department of Agriculture Research Center and the University of Maryland are easily within reach.

An additional brief note: I am a real estate agent who is head-over-heels in love with the whole idea of the co-ops in Greenbelt. I love the sense of community, the fact that there are walking paths throughout the neighborhood, which encourages a sense of 'neighborliness'. In so many of the homes that I sell, neighbors come up to me and say, "you know, this is the best court in GHI". I have no affiliation with Greenbelt Home, Incorporated. They have had no input into this website, other than the wonderful information they have posted at GHI.coop.

You can find property searches all over the place, but how do you find out about what makes a city like Greenbelt the wonderful community that it is? And once you move in, how do you find out the important stuff, like what restaurants deliver in town and who do you call to have your kitchen remodeled? |
